This kitchen is a great example of the work that we are capable of with home remodels. We took the small kitchen in this Tracy home and transformed the space entirely. You can’t even recognize the old kitchen at all! Everything you see is brand new and customized.

We feel that the best way to really see our work, other than in person, of course, is with a video. Check out a video walkthrough of this kitchen, including soft close doors and drawers, a custom built walk-in pantry, and a built-in microwave drawer!

Goal: An Open Layout

The owners of this home are a young couple with their first child. They love to entertain and have friends over, often for game day. Their kitchen was functional but was definitely starting to feel cramped. There was enough space in the home to transform the kitchen and adjoining areas into one large open layout. This layout has been popular for years and we feel that it will continue to be, as people get away from separate rooms in the living area and embrace the open layout.

When we first consult with clients, we determine their needs, goals, desires, and budget for their project. Once we have a clear idea of what is desired, we put together a CAD drawing like you see here.

For this home, we proposed completely ripping everything out and basically starting from scratch. The existing space had a kitchen separated from the dining room by a small doorway. The opposite end of the dining room opened up to the front space in the home, near the entrance and staircase. We wanted to remove this wall and enlarge the entire space, which would move the doorway to the kitchen area, rather than the dining room. This open layout would allow easy access to all parts of the downstairs area.

The clients agreed on this course of action, and the project was scheduled.

Ripping it all Out

As design-build contractors, we love these types of projects. We basically get a clean slate and build off of it. This was such a fun project for us to complete, and we knew that this family was really going to enjoy their new home.

Here are some photos just after we took out the wall separating the kitchen from the dining room.

Custom Large Kitchen Island

This was probably our favorite part of this entire project. The family wanted an extra large kitchen island that accommodated at least six people. Basically, we needed to create a large kitchen table that was also an island. This custom-built island would also house the brand new apron sink and dishwasher.

This island was topped with a gorgeous quartzite, as were the rest of the counters throughout the kitchen.

Refaced Fireplace

The fireplace is located at the opposite end of this living space, facing the kitchen. We retained the original fireplace and refaced it with stacked stone. The result was beautiful and matched the rest of the home nicely.

The flooring was also replaced throughout the entire downstairs. We removed the tile and laminate and replaced with durable vinyl plank flooring.

We are really happy with how this transformation turned out. It’s such a change from the old downstairs! A whole new kitchen, refaced fireplace, new flooring, and a redone staircase (new paint and carpet). Check out the gallery below for more photos from this project:
